Alexander Alexander (1783-1859) was a Scottish mercenary, traveller and adventurer. Engravings of this portrait by Thomas Hodgetts are held at the Scottish National Gallery, Edinburgh (Sp V 323.1) and The National Portrait Gallery, London (Npg D342). Alexander wrote an autobiography, The Life of Alexander Alexander, which was edited by John Howell and published in two volumes by Blackwoods in 1830.
